How Can I Be Saved?
Repent. Believe. Follow in faith.
Romans 3:23 says that "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
That wasn't God's original intention for us, as Genesis tells us that we were created in God's image and that God said this creation was "very good." (Genesis 1:31). However, in Genesis 3, we read that the first of mankind, Adam and Eve, fell into sin. Sin is anything that is against God. Sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4). Eve was tempted by Satan to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that God specifically commanded them not to, and then gave some of the fruit to Adam who ate also. Suddenly, they were aware of their sin and there was separation in their relationship with God. Because of their sin, God had to punish them. Sin has consequences. Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Without a relationship with God, we are separated from Him and will spend eternity in a place called Hell, that wasn't intended for us but for Satan and the fallen angels.
However, God had a plan from the very beginning to restore our broken relationship with Him. God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, who is God in the flesh, to pay the price for the sin of every human by dying on the cross. Jesus took our place and paid our price for the cost of sin.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
Jesus said in Mark 1:15 "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
The gospel literally means "good news." The good news is that Jesus came to pay your sin debt so that you could be reconciled, or made right, with God! What do we do? We repent. We understand our sin separates us from God and that we cannot save ourselves. Repent means to stop going one way and turn the opposite way. We turn from our life of sin and turn in faith to Jesus. We believe. Romans 10:9-10 says "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. " Then, we follow Jesus. If Jesus is Lord of our life, that means we let Him lead us and guide us in every part of our life. The amazing thing is, when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, He gives us the Holy Spirit that lives in us! The Holy Spirit is our Guide, our Comforter, and reminds us of all Jesus has taught us.
Have you repented and believed in Jesus Christ? If not, you can today, right where you are at. Tell God you realize you are a sinner and in need of a Savior. Tell Him you believe that Jesus died to save you from your sins. Ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. Then, let others know of your decision to follow Jesus and get connected to a local, Bible believing church. We would love to celebrate that with you at Pilot Knob Baptist Church!
